An ABC strut (also known as a hydropneumatic strut or air suspension strut) is a standard strut that also contains a shock absorber, the difference being that the ABC strut has a hydraulic fluid chamber that allows the height of each strut to be adjusted by adding or removing ABC fluid. This feature is used to compensate for wear of the top bushings on the strut, which can cause a loud clunk when going over speed bumps or similar obstacles. It is not recommended to add any other hydraulic fluid to an ABC system, as this could damage the struts and valve block.
